George served with the Army Service Corps (ASC), Hgrs Detachment (per his headstone application. See below). On August 22, 1918, the Army Service Corps was established to operate units in the Services of Supply. The unit was responsible for the supply chain shipping materials to Europe. On September 7, 1917, General John Pershing directed that a ninety-day reserve of all classes of supplies be maintained by monthly shipments to reduce the impact of possible German submarine attacks. The goal was to have reserves stockpiled .... Based on George's WWI draft registration employment as an order clerk, he would have been a valuable asset to the ASC.
